[Incunabula]. [Bible. Latin. 1495]. Liber uite : Biblia, cum glosis ordinarijs et interlinearibus ... simulq[ue] cum expositio[n]e Nicolai de Lyra et cum concordantijs i[n] margine. Venice, Paganinus de Paganinis, April 18, 1495. In-folio, [14] f., [1] f. Important illustrated incunabula edition of the Latin Vulgate, established by Bernardinus Gadolus, and accompanied by commentaries by Walafrid Strabo, Anselme de Laon and Nicolas de Lyre, among others. One of the very first illustrated Italian Bibles, this volume contains only the first third of the work; this complete Bible must have comprised 14 and 1498 leaves, was continuously folioed, and its division into volumes was not designed by the publisher but left to the discretion of the user. This volume contains the Prolegomena, then proceeds from Genesis to the Book of Esther. Title in red and black, with woodcut printer's mark showing St. Peter accompanied by the words "Tu es Petrus" ("You are Petrus"). 2-column text with juxtaposed gloss, framed by an extensive commentary. The illustration consists of woodcut figures in the text, varying in size, the largest on half a page.
