Small folio, [42]-242 f., contemporary brown calf, 5-ribbed mute spine, double acadrement and 4 angular fleurons to boards, all in cold (flaws including cover lac. at head and tail of spine, corners dull; double endpapers missing at beginning and end of vol.; 1st title a little faded with small ink stain, light wetness corner of tt last ff. and negligible in margins, ink stains not serious f.77, Rare Lyon edition of this legal compendium concerning the Kingdom of Naples, composed by M. d'Afflitto (c. 1447-1523), an eminent jurisconsult who had a career in various Neapolitan institutions and was a member of the Royal Council of Naples from 1495 to 1501. The index bound at the beginning of the volume is preceded by a special title page, in red and black, in a handsome woodcut frame with a vignette showing the author at his desk, which is repeated on folio 3r° of the text; the main title page is of similar design, with the same woodcuts. Woodcut mark of bookseller Simon Vincent at the end of the index and at the end of the volume. Text on 2 columns, woodcut initials. Signs: aa-dd8, ee10; a-z8, A-F8, G10. Provenance: Claude Maleteste (1620-1690), jurist, author of Anecdotes du Parlement de Dijon, a very free-spirited work on the parliamentary aristocracy at the time of the Fronde (handwritten bookplate "Claude Maleteste, advocat au balliage du Charollois") (USTC 146577).
