ZAMBECCHARI (Lodovico, pseud. of Juan Antonio de Vera). Al g - Lot 100
ZAMBECCHARI (Lodovico, pseud. of Juan Antonio de Vera). Al grande al pio, al beatissimo papa Urbano VIII. In Orleans, con licenza de Superiori, s.n., 1633. In-4, 44 p., leaves (flaws including fold mark in 4, hole through volume, wax stains, browning). Extremely rare work, apart from one copy in the Biblioteca Nacional in Madrid, we have not found any in public collections or on the market. This violent satire against Pope Urban VIII was written by Juan Antonio de Vera y Figueroa (1583-1658), a Spanish diplomat, historian and writer. This clandestine edition, under a fictitious address in Orléans and a pseudonym, was most probably printed at the author's own expense in Venice, where he served as ambassador. An ardent promoter of the Spanish monarchy, Vera y Figueroa constantly criticized the Pope's weakness in the face of heresy, and his complicity with France.
