In-8, blue morocco, spine with 5 raised bands, gilt author, title and date, double gilt fillet at the edges, guilloche headpieces, morocco-edged spine flaps decorated with 2 gilt roulettes and 2 gilt fillets, gilt head, untrimmed, covers preserved [Marius Michel] (minor rubbing). First edition of this play first performed on November 8, 1838, for the opening of the Théâtre de la Renaissance. A copy of Jules Noilly cited by Carteret (monogrammed bookplate), printed on fine laid paper, with a "TD" watermark on some leaves. Washed and glued, it was enriched at the time of binding by a leaf bearing the variant title addressed to Delloye, and Brockhaus and Avenarius in Leipzig. Collation details: [3] f.
