MARIAVAL le jeune à Paris, circa 1730 - Lot 57
MARIAVAL le jeune à Paris, circa 1730 Suite of four quadrille game boxes with grisaille-engraved decoration and color highlights of landscapes, comedia dell'arte characters and butterflies on a yellow, red and green background. With colored colored and engraved tokens. Signed and located Paris. Minor accidents. L. 8 D. 6 cm These 18th-century quadrille game boxes are signed by the Parisian and Rouen-based artisan-tabletier Mariaval le Jeune, who seems to have made them his specialty. He must also have had a workshop in Rouen, if we consider his signature on boxes in the Amsterdam Rijksmuseum "Mariaval le Jeune a Rouen fecit" (inv. BK-NM-624-A, B, C and D).
