A molded, carved and oil-gilded wooden armchair by Nicolas-Q - Lot 178
A molded, carved and oil-gilded wooden armchair by Nicolas-Quinibert Foliot, from the Château de Dampierre, Louis XV period. Flat-backed, on curved legs. Small letters and the Dampierre inventory number are stamped on the back. M 6. Traces of blue Dampierre inventory paint in the belt. H. 95 W. 70 D. 60 cm Three other armchairs in a row, originally from a series of four, delivered to the Château de Dampierre for the Duc de Luynes around 1745. These four armchairs were inventoried on November 4, 1771 in the 'Salon de Compagnie' at Dampierre: "... four ordinary armchairs in gilded wood with oil...". Two of these armchairs were sold at Daguerre on November 28, 2023, lot 197. The fourth armchair is in a large private collection. Two of the armchairs are stamped and two are not (or not visible). Our armchair must have been separated from the other three very early on, as the latter were redecorated at the end of the 19th century, whereas our example still has its original oil gilding.
