Attributed to Antoon WILLEMSENS (active in Antwerp between 1649/50 and 1672/73) Christ carrying his cross Copper on frame. Monogrammed lower left A.W. F. Old restorations. 59.6 x 77 cm Blackened pearwood frame, Flemish work of the 17th century, enriched in the 19th century. Signed in the same way as our copper Jesus Among the Doctors (Christie's Monaco sale December 4, 1992, no. 26, copper, 65.8 x 86 cm, signed A.W. IN.F) was the first painting to be offered a new attribution to Antoon Willemsens, after having long been attributed to Arthus Wolfaert (1581-1641).
