Charles SEVIN de la PENAYE (1685 - 1740) Portrait of Abbée Pierre Pucelle (1665 - 1745) Canvas Height : 87 cm Width : 65 cm Louis XVI period, heart-striped frame Bears a signature on the right, mounted 'H Rigaud / 17..'. The original portrait was painted by Hyacinthe Rigaud in 1721 for 500 livres and is kept at the Musée de Port Royal des Champs in Magny-les-Hameaux; a faithful drawing belonged to the Prat collection (Rosenberg 1990, no. 36, p. 106, re. p.107).The painting was engraved by Drevet and Ficquet.In a written communication dated dated March 10, 2012, Stephan Perreau states that the present version is "by the hand of Rigaud's most famous assistant of Rigaud, La Penaye, who is the only one to have worked on this portrait.
