[Manuscript]. ANSTRUDE (Charles d'). Proverbes, faits et rep - Lot 65
[Manuscript]. ANSTRUDE (Charles d'). Proverbes, faits et représentés à Anstrude, by Charles d'Anstrude, year 1799.
In-4, period marbled boards (spine rubbed, edges worn).
Precious testimony to the distractions of an important Burgundian family during the last year of the Directoire. This collection consists of around 120 unnumbered leaves, written in ink on laid paper in r° and v°. It contains the text of 4 plays, each using a proverb as a pretext; the performers whose names are given are members of Anstrude's family and a few close relations (Coeurderoy, de Channe). An additional piece in the middle of the volume was donated on the occasion of Blanche d'Anstrude's 4th birthday.
The dedication "A la société pour lequel ces pièces ont été faites et devant qui elles ont été représentées" at the beginning is signed by a certain "Gouriez", who may well be the author of these plays, despite the mention of Charles d'Anstrude on the title page.
Attached is a set of old autograph pieces, including 2 letters signed "Anstrude" dated 1742, a bill and envelope addressed to Abbé d'Anstrude, and a letter addressed to Château d'Anstrude in 1818, a total of 14 leaves.
