[Manuscript]. [Joigny. Burgundy]. DAVIER (Edme-Louis). Mémoi - Lot 192
[Manuscript]. [Joigny. Burgundy]. DAVIER (Edme-Louis). Mémoires pour l'histoire de la ville et comté de Joigny. By the lawyer Sieur Davier 1723. [Circa 1850].
In-folio, [4] leaves, 420 numbered pages, ink on paper, fir green half suede, red basane title-piece, label on tail (spine and head-cap rubbed, bump on one cut; sporadic russeting, copy pale in places).
Carefully handwritten copy, including additions and corrections by Abbé Duru, who commissioned it, as he states in an autograph note signed and dated 1852: "I know of two copies of the Memoirs which follow; one is in the library of the town of Joigny, it is the original; the second is an already very old copy which is in Trucy, in the hands of Me de Massol; it is on this copy that I had this new copy printed".
There are currently three copies of this work in public collections (B.M. Joigny MS 2185, BNF Ms Français 14394 and NAF 1330). To our knowledge, this is the only one in circulation.
Provenance: Louis-Maximilien Duru (1804-1869), priest of the diocese of Sens, historian and poet (bookplate); Joseph Bierry (1851-1939), priest of the diocese of Sens (bookplate).
