[Autographs]. [Burgundy]. Collection compiled by Loÿs (or Lo - Lot 303
[Autographs]. [Burgundy]. Collection compiled by Loÿs (or Louis) Barrault, editor and then division chief at the Yonne prefecture in the 30s and 40s. A large folio album, brown half-chagrin with corners, gilt title on spine, cold-rolled spine and boards. It contains around 300 items of various kinds and from different periods, 280 of which are mounted, and some 20 loose items; some are related to Burgundy, signed by local personalities. The album opens with the collector's original ex-libris design. Highlights include a L.A.S. from Reynaldo Hahn, two typed letters signed by US presidents Roosevelt and Hoover, old documents, some on parchment, including diplomas, for example a nomination as chevalier de l'Ordre de Saint-Louis sur velin in 1814, an autograph poem by Catulle-Mendès, autographed photographs of actors from the 1930s, 4 aerial photographs of mountain peaks signed and dated 1930. A very varied album that deserves careful examination.
