[Illustrated]. Set of 4 modern illustrated books:
TILLIERS, Claude - SAUVAGE, Sylvain. Mon oncle Benjamin. Paris, Marcel Lubineau, 1943. In-8, loose-leaf, illustrated covered binding, slipcase, case.
297 pp., [1 f.], 42 woodcuts by Sylvain Sauvage (cover, title vignette, and frontispiece colored by stencil; 39 vignettes in the text), initial letters, and tailpieces. A print run of 950 numbered copies on Lana vellum, cut to size. Tillier’s masterpiece is set during the reign of Louis XVI. His hero (Jacques Brel was a magnificent Benjamin in the film adaptation) is a libertarian doctor—lewd and generous—always ready to sit down to a meal in good company and to rail against kings and nobles, the courts, and all sorts of nuisances. A delight to read, beautifully illustrated by Sylvain Sauvage.
- JACOB, Max - HUGO, Jean. *Le Cornet à dés*. Paris, Gallimard, 1948. 8vo, paperback, illustrated hardback-style cover, slipcase, case.
210 pp., [1 f.], 113 woodcut illustrations by Jean Hugo within the text. Print run of 422 numbered copies (No. 362) on pure rag vellum from the Papeteries de Lana
- GAUTIER, Théophile - RAMONDOT, Jacques. Venice. Paris, Cent Femmes Amies des Livres, 1962. In-4, loose-leaf, printed cover with flaps, slipcase, case.
161 pp., [2 ff.], 20 original drypoint engravings by Jacques Ramondot, including one spanning a double page. Edition of 100 numbered copies on Grand Velin de Rives, personalized (no. 11), signed by the engraver. A beautiful commemorative volume published to mark the 150th anniversary of Théophile Gautier’s birth.
- MAURON, Marie - BOULLAIRE, Jacques. - *Les Rocassiers*. Paris, R. Laffont, 1945. Quarto, loose-leaf, printed cover, slipcase, case partially worn.
126 pp., [3 ff.], frontispiece, vignettes in the text, initials, and tailpieces in bistre engraved by Jacques Boullaire. First edition. Printed in a run of 910 numbered copies on Rives vellum (no. 163). A collection of tales and short stories written by the “Provençal Colette,” inspired by the inhabitants of the rugged Provençal hills who are deeply attached to their land. Les Rocassiers is the name given to the inhabitants of La Roque d’Anthéron.
