BOILEAU (Nicolas). The Works of Mr. Boileau Despréaux. With historical notes provided by the author himself. Geneva: Fabri & Barrillot, 1716. 2 vols. in-4, [2] f., XXVIII–506 p., [1] f. (errata) + [3] f., 427 p., [17] leaves (table of contents), period tan sheepskin, 5-rib spine, red-brown morocco title label, gilt volume number, decorated panels, red edges (defects including scuffing, scratches, worm damage to the headbands and spine; creasing on a folded corner of the portrait frames, scattered browning and foxing). Partially original edition, as it contains a piece appearing here for the first time, the satire *L’Équivoque*. It is illustrated with two portraits engraved by Chereau (Boileau after Rigaud, and the dedicatee Philippe d’Orléans after Santerre), two engraved headpieces and two initials, and six separate plates by François Chereau for “Le Lutrin.” (Cohen 165). Provenance: Egidio Giannini, abbot of Pergola (Marche), who published *Memorie istoriche di Pergola e degli uomini illustri di essa* in 1732 (name handwritten on the title pages).
