Black half-shagreen binding, ribbed spine, with “Lucien Bessières” and “Dessins” gilded on the spine. 83 leaves mounted on tabs. Most of the drawings are in India ink on mounted tracing paper; others are in graphite; a few are watercolors. One drawing is dated May 1856. Some are geographically identified: - earthenware in Paris, cabinet-made furniture, funerary monuments, doors (including carriage gates on Rue des Bernardins in Paris and the entrance gate to the hospice in Le Croisic), wrought-iron balcony railings and stair railings, entrance gates, views of churches (including those in Yerres, Valenton, Crosne, Poigny, Les Trous, Rouvroy, and Grugis), baptismal fonts, wood paneling (including the church in Argenteuil), altarpieces, fireplaces, the Château de la Vérie, and a rural dwelling near Le Croisic, as well as numerous facade elevations and architectural details. A student at the École des Beaux-Arts from December 1847 to February 1855, in the studios of Adhémar, Mortier, and Callet, Lucien Bessière designed town halls and schools, several private mansions in Paris, restored castles in the provinces, and contributed to the journal *L’Encyclopédie d’Architecture*. An exceptional and very well-preserved collection.
