[Architecture]. [Paris; Bois de Boulogne]. ORY. Design for a - Lot 88
[Architecture]. [Paris; Bois de Boulogne]. ORY. Design for a music center and performance hall in the Bois de Boulogne. Five prints. Hand-colored prints. 53 x 107.7 cm (view size; except for the last one, which is smaller), in frames measuring 57 x 112 cm each. Each frame bears a label reading “ORY, Studios d’Architecture” (studios founded in 1979 by Jean-Jacques Ory). Water stains. a) Aerial perspective view of the project with the city in the background. (Glass broken at one corner). b) Two cross-sections on the same sheet, with elements glued in place. It shows exhibition and gallery spaces, a central mall, and below that, a music center or foyer and a 650-seat performance hall with a stage, technical spaces, control room, orchestra pit, set storage, and dressing rooms. Beneath the entrance to the music center or foyer are two levels of parking. c) Ground floor plan, with elements pasted on. The square-shaped building features a central hall and a large temporary exhibition space at its center and is surrounded by galleries housing permanent exhibitions. A wide walkway leads to the entrance, while the exit opens onto a large esplanade covered by a canopy structure, providing space for receptions and the extension of exhibitions. d) Basement floor plan. The Maison de la Musique / Foyer is located beneath the temporary exhibition space, and the performance hall is beneath the esplanade. Surrounding these are a bar, a cafeteria, several studios and control rooms, and areas for performers to gather. e) Site plan, with elements pasted on. 41.1 x 96 cm visible area, under a passe-partout. Partial map of the Bois de Boulogne, showing the Jardin d’Acclimatation, the equestrian center and the bowling alley, Avenue du Mahatma Gandhi, the road from Porte Dauphine to Porte des Sablons and the road from Porte des Sablons to Porte Maillot, the Pavillon d’Armenonville, and Avenue de Longchamp. Boulevard Maurice Barrès marks the top edge of the map. This project was intended to be located in the eastern part of the Jardin d’Acclimatation, between the Museum of Popular Arts and Traditions and Allée des Érables. This project for a “house of music”—featuring permanent exhibition galleries, temporary exhibition halls, and a large underground performance hall—certainly dates back to the early 1980s, before the Parc de la Villette was chosen to house the Cité de la Musique and the Musée de la Musique.
