Map of the estate and seigneury of Berry-au-Bac, located in Champagne and belonging to His Grace the Duke of Charot, Peer of France, surveyed and measured in 1785 by D. Saunier. Very large hand-drawn map, in ink and watercolor on paper, composed of 23 segments measuring approximately 48 x 35 cm, and 6 smaller segments, the whole measuring 163 x 328 cm, mounted on salmon-colored canvas from the period, folded to 50 x 37 cm, with a handwritten title label “Berry-au-Bacq” on the reverse. The title appears in a rococo cartouche, featuring a compass rose and a scale of 240 toises. A separate sheet includes a “Reference to Map Numbers,” identifying 58 parcels, along with their designations and respective areas. Detailed map of a portion of the lands located in Berry-au-Bac, in the present-day department of Aisne, owned at the time by Armand Joseph de Béthune, Duke of Chârost (1738–1800), a military officer and a philanthropist committed to the advancement of agriculture and industry, who was appointed mayor of the 10th arrondissement of Paris in 1799.
