[Americana]. Cecilia BEAUX (1855–1942), American portrait pa - Lot 110
[Americana]. Cecilia BEAUX (1855–1942), American portrait painter in the Impressionist style. Autograph letter signed “Dear Miss Howe.” Hôtel Vouillemont, Paris, [c. 1920?]. One in-12 page, with autograph envelope. “I am very anxious to bring my friend Miss Lloyd with me to join you for tea tomorrow and feel that I am overstepping [you?] or our slight acquaintance by asking if I may. She is an artist and an old friend of mine [1 word] young. She is very eager to meet you. So I am going to assume that you would agree [...]. Yours with many apologies.” A rare autograph letter addressed to Beatrice Howe (1867–1932), an American painter. Both painters were renowned for their portraits; Cecilia Beaux painted a famous portrait of Clemenceau in 1920 and was living in Paris at the time with several friends, one of whom was Molly Lloyd. In this message, Cecilia Beaux informs Beatrice Howe—somewhat belatedly—that she wishes to attend her tea party accompanied by Miss Lloyd, which was unplanned and causes her some embarrassment.
