Louis FRANÇAIS (1811–1897), a French landscape painter assoc - Lot 125
Louis FRANÇAIS (1811–1897), a French landscape painter associated with the Barbizon School. Signed autograph letter addressed to the French painter Émile Noirot (1853–1924). Plombières, Sunday, undated. One and a half pages, in-12 format. The painter acknowledges receipt of a letter containing a photograph and writes: “I find your subject very elegant and have no doubt that it will be well received by the jury.” Having come to Plombières to rest, he writes that it was there that he learned of his appointment [to the Institut? Or the Académie des Beaux-Arts? Louis Français was admitted to both institutions in 1890]. He assures his correspondent that he will support him and tells him that he will offer his opinion on the painting after seeing the canvas. And he concludes as follows: “Until then, keep up the good work, Mr. Noirot—painting is a consolation for everything!”
