Johann Baptist HOMANN (1663–1724), after Johannes JANSSONIUS - Lot 7
Johann Baptist HOMANN (1663–1724), after Johannes JANSSONIUS. Ducatus Sabaudiae, circa 1690 Sheet with a central fold for the black copperplate-engraved map. Scale. (A few tears along the edges; a strip of paper glued to the reverse). Dimensions excluding margins: 32 x 40 cm Johann Baptist Homann was appointed Imperial Geographer to Emperor Charles VI in 1715. This map is likely taken from “Situation and Current State of the Duchy of Savoy and the Principality of Piedmont, According to the Characteristics of Each Region, Natural Resources, Major Localities, and Rulers” by Johann Georg Tucher von Simmelsdorf. Published in Nuremberg by Joh. Andreae Endter & Sons, 1690. This map, published in reduced scale, is heavily inspired by the map created by Jansson.
