Historical
After training at the Institute of Civil Engineers, Karl Geftler graduated from the Imperial Academy of Fine Arts as a landscape painter. With this dual training, he excelled in architectural landscape painting, which took a central part in his work. He became an active member of the Society of Russian Watercolorists within the St. Petersburg Society of Artists. From then on, he enjoyed great success at his first exhibitions in 1888 where his watercolours were highly appreciated by collectors and art lovers. Today, it is possible to admire his works in many museums in Russia including the Pushkin Museum in Moscow and the Museum of Fine Arts in Omsk.
