Our canvas is probably the one exhibited by the artist at the Salon of 1861, n°2806, View of the lake of Albano near Rome.
Trained in Pierre-Henri's studio in Valenciennes, Louise-Joséphine made a first trip to Italy
between 1824 and 1826, from Lazio to Sicily, bringing back numerous pochades and sketches. In the 1840s,
she painted panoramic views of Rome, Naples or Florence (Toulouse, Musée des Augustins and Chamber
of Commerce). Located south of Rome, in the Castelli Romani region, Lake Albano occupies an ancient volcanic crater
. In the late 18th and 19th centuries, most landscape artists passing through represented its shores,
from Hackert, Cozens, Scedrin, Turner, Bodinier and Corot (museums of Caen and Budapest) to Achenbach.
